On Saturday, July 26th, the sun was shining, the courts were buzzing, and the Garneau Mixed Doubles Tournament hosted by Edmonton Tennis Community kicked off! This tournament brought together 38 players of all skill levels from across the city for a fun-filled day on Edmonton’s only clay courts.

Located in the heart of Edmonton, Garneau Tennis Club offers a unique playing experience. With its beautiful surroundings and clay courts, the club provides a community-oriented setting that makes every event feel special. We’re grateful to Garneau Tennis Club for letting us host the tournament and give players such a fantastic space to connect, compete, and enjoy the game.
While there was no shortage of competitive spirit, the atmosphere remained lighthearted and social, making it easy for players of all backgrounds to feel comfortable. Some participants commented on how much they enjoyed playing on clay, highlighting the longer rallies and extra time to react between shots.
Every level of play was celebrated, winners from each category (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) went home with a unique prize: a 3D-printed tennis racquet made by Sonny, the tournament coordinator. It was a fun, personal touch that made the day even more memorable.
And of course, a big shoutout to our amazing ETC volunteers, who made it all happen! From organizing matches to manning the barbeque and serving up burgers and hot dogs all afternoon for participants to enjoy.
Nicole, the advanced category winner, shared why she keeps coming back:
“One of the best things about ETC tournaments is how inclusive and supportive the community is. The competition is friendly without being intimidating, which makes it easy to enjoy the game and connect with others. That’s why I sign up for every tournament!”
The Garneau Mixed Doubles Tournament was a true celebration of summer tennis, sunny skies, spirited play, and a growing community. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
