The Edmonton Tennis Community (ETC), in partnership with Tennis Alberta and Tennis Canada, continues to bring tennis into local schools through a series of engaging in-class programs designed to make the sport more accessible to young players.
Most recently, ETC delivered a session at Queen Elizabeth School, where Coach Peter led a group of 30 girls in a fun, high-energy introduction to tennis. The students learned new skills, rallied with friends, and discovered the joy of the game - all within their regular school setting.
This partnership aims to inspire confidence, promote healthy activity, and foster lifelong connections through sport. ETC plans to continue this initiative as schools return, bringing the program to even more classrooms across Edmonton.
Canadian research shows that 1 in 3 girls drop out of sport by their late teens — compared with just 1 in 10 boys. By age 16, nearly half of Canadian girls are no longer participating in organized sports.
This decline is often linked to confidence gaps, limited opportunities, and a lack of welcoming environments for girls in sport. Programs like ETC’s help bridge that gap by offering inclusive, supportive, and empowering spaces where girls can stay active, have fun, and build lasting confidence.
Tennis, in particular, provides a unique blend of physical skill, focus, and resilience — helping young players develop leadership, teamwork, and self-belief that extends far beyond the court.
“Edmonton Tennis Community (ETC) is excited to launch a school initiative that introduces kids to tennis through accessible, high-quality programming led by skilled coaches. By fostering confidence, community, and leadership, we are supporting the growth of our organization while strengthening the long-term development of tennis in our area.”
— Karina Trkulja, Executive Director, Edmonton Tennis Community
By continuing to bring tennis into schools, ETC, alongside Tennis Alberta and Tennis Canada, is helping to ensure that more children, especially girls, have the opportunity to discover the lifelong benefits of sport and community.
