Canadian Tire JumpStart & Edmonton Junior Tennis Society Team Up to Provide Winter Tennis Programs for Disadvantaged Youth

Each fall, Edmonton Junior Tennis Society proudly teams up with Canadian Tire Jumpstart and the Edmonton Public School Board, to deliver a kids’ tennis program for over 300 students from some of Edmonton’s most underprivileged neighborhoods.

Students in grades 3 – 5 learn tennis basics in their own gymnasiums, during the eight-week program, using progressive tennis techniques, which uses smaller-sized racquets, slower and lower-bouncing balls, and smaller sized courts.

In addition to the eight weeks of programming, each child is provided a tennis racquet, providing them the opportunity to continue to learn to play long after the coaches have left the school. Purchased through the support of our gracious donors and sponsors, the program has distributed over 2000 racquets to disadvantaged youth, over the last five years.

Janet Laddish, principal of Inglewood School and tennis liaison for the eight schools, says “The partnership of our 8 west area Edmonton Public Schools with Little Aces Tennis provides for first-rate support in engaging our diverse group of students to strive for healthy goals. Students can learn to play tennis and experience a new health and fitness option.”
